Examples to some common DOS commands ( in Windows 98 SE) (3).

Formatting floppy disks.


DOS = Disk Operating System.

You can enter the DOS commands after the DOS prompt (A:\> or C:\> ).
Note: Drive letter "a" will be used here for the first floppy disk drive .

How to format floppy disks:

Insert the floppy disk which you want to format , into drive "a".

Warning:
All previous information on that floppy disk will be lost after formatting. Be careful, that you insert the right floppy disk ( not write protected ) and check that the drive letter (a) is the correct letter in your case.

Type:

format a:

and press "Enter" key.
Then follow the instructions on the screen. After formatting you will see the following information on your monitor screen:

Format complete
Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none) ?
