Examples to some common DOS commands in Windows 98 SE (4).

Copy floppy disks

For computers with one floppy drive and a hard disk.
Drive letter of floppy drive: A

DOS = Disk Operating System

Be very careful and follow the instructions on the screen when you copy complete floppy disks.
Write protect your original floppy disk before you insert it into the floppy drive as an additional safety measure.
For the target disk use an empty disk or with files, which you don't want to use any more ; any file on that disk will be erased during the copy process.

Within DOS behind the A-prompt (A:\>) type:

DISKCOPY A:
and press "Enter"

The then appearing screen will ask you to insert the source disk.
Insert your source disk in drive A and press any key.

Then the next screen appears, which will ask you to insert the target disk.
Remove your source disk from the floppy drive and insert the target disk and press any key.

At the end of the copy process the program ask you whether you want another duplicate of that disk and in another question whether you want to copy another disk. Answer the questions with Y or N.

Then take out the target disk from the floppy drive and and label the disk immediately.
