- KB
- Kilobyte; a unit of measure for disk storage capacity.
- MB
- Megabyte; a unit of measure for disk storage capacity.
- MB/sec
- Megabyte per second; a unit of measure for data transfer rate of a floppy disk drive.
- rpm
- revolutions per minute
- Oe
- Oersted; a unit of measure for the magnetic field.
- FDC
- floppy disk controller
- HDC
- hard disk controller
- IDE
- integrated drive electronics interface
- DS/DD
- double sided double density.
For example 5.25 inch 360 KB disks and 3.5 inch 720 KB disks are DS/DD disks.
- HD
- high density.
For example 5.25 inch 1.2 MB disks and 3.5 inch 1.44 MB disks are HD disks.
- FAT
- file allocation table; a type of table of contents for a disk.
- ED
- extra high density. For example the 2.88 MB disks are ED disks.
- TPI
- tracks per inch; for example a 1.44 MB 3.5 inch disk has 135 tpi.
