The ixora plant

Common name: Flame of the woods.

This plant grows as a flowering shrub. The height can reach 1.8 m or more. The spread is about 2 m or more at a grown up shrub.

The flower is bright shining yellow ( diameter of the flower cluster shown here is about 10 cm ). Other ixoras may be white, red or pink.

Diameter is about 3 cm. This flower here has 5 pointed petals. Normally the ixora flower has 4 pointed petals.

The leaves are smooth and relative thick. The larger leaves shown here are about 9 cm long and 4 cm wide.

The stem: the older parts of the stem are brown in color.

Usage of the plant: The ixoras can be used as ornamental plants or as flowering hedges.

Propagation : by stem cuttings.

Common ixoras:
ixora coccinea, ixora javanica, ixora chinensis.

Growing region : tropical.
