Rearing Quail Birds as Hobby


Rearing quails can be a rewarding hobby. The quail is similar to a partridge, but smaller.

New breeds of the old world quail are suitable for rearing at home. The quail can grow up to 260 grams (about 9 ounces) in 6 to 8 weeks. The overall length of a grown up quail is about 18 cm ( about 7 inch). The female birds can lay about 150 to 200 eggs until the age of about 40 weeks.
The quail meat is low in fat and low in cholesterol . Quail meat and quail eggs are tasteful.
The hatching time for quail eggs is about 3 weeks in an incubator. The new born quails can walk and eat independently already on the first day after they are born.
