How to prevent malaria
Tips which help you to prevent that malaria spreading mosquitos ( Anopheles maculatus ) bite you ; especially if you travel into rural areas of countries with humid hot climate.
-
Keep yourself clean . If you sweat, shower and dry yourself before you sleep.
- Don't wear dark red , dark blue or any dark clothing at night and dawn and dusk.
- Keep your bedroom clean . Remove all rubbish before you sleep.
- If you don't sleep in an air con room , use a fan to blow away mosquitos .
- Cover yourself with light colored thin clothing when you sleep. Don't sleep with uncovered skin .
- In non-air con rooms use mosquito coils ,which you can buy in local sundry shops. The coils can smolder for about 8 hours . Use a metal pot with mesh wire cover to keep the smoldering coil . Put the coil about 2 meters away from your sleeping place.
- If you don't want to use smoldering mosquito coils you can use a mosquito repellent spray . You can spray the room one or two hours before you sleep . Spray only for a few seconds. Follow the instructions on the spray can and leave the room closed for 10 minutes or more , depending on the brand of the repellent spray. Don't enter the room during that time.
- If the place has unusual many mosquitos , close the windows and doors at the time of sunset , sleep with fully bright light. (e.g. 2x 40 watt florescent tube light ) or consider to leave the place , if you don't want to use a mosquito net .
