Cocoa ( cacao )

The cocoa tree

The cocoa tree is a small tree with about 4 to 8 m height. Wild growing cocoa trees can be 12 m high.
The importance of the cocoa tree is that they produce the cocoa pods, which contain the cocoa beans. From the cocoa beans cocoa powder, cocoa milk, chocolate and other products can be manufactured.
The cocoa tree grows in tropical and subtropical countries from about 20 degrees latitude south to 20 degrees latitude north.

The long leaf shown is about 22 cm long. The leaf is relatively hard and and the top surface smooth.





The flowers of a cocoa tree

The flowers of a cocoa tree are small , yellow white in color and they grow at the trunk or the main stem of the branches.
